Cancer Care Campaign
Our cancer treatment areas are due for an update and overall improvements; whether it’s preparing the much needed medications in the Pharmacy, the Chemo treatment areas, or the waiting room areas that come with much apprehension and nervousness.
These spaces are vital in the treatment and care of each and every cancer patient, and through this campaign our goal is to ensure they are comfortable, easily accessible and state of the art.
We need your help so that every single cancer patient has the most up-to-date equipment available to them at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, so that cancer patients and their families have one less worry.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
In 2020, over 170 individuals made more than 1066 visits to the Pembroke Regional Hospital to receive their much needed cancer treatments. It is a disease that touches 1 out of every 2 people and its effects can be life changing for the patients and their families.
IMPACT
The PRH Medical Oncology Unit offers therapies for solid tumors for any type of cancers, as well as, blood transfusions, I.V, PICC lines, BCG’s, support and follow up to educate patients about chemo and what comes afterwards. Having this care available locally means less travel for cancer patients in our own community.
HOW TO HELP
There are so many ways you can help be a part of our Cancer Care Campaign! You can: make a one-time donation, become a monthly donor, make an annual pledge over 2-3 years, leave an "estate gift" (donating stocks, properties, possessions) or host your own fundraising event. See our FAQ's below for more information.

Check out these recent and real-time donations from members in your community who are helping to keep Cancer Care closer to home:
In 2011, as chair of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Board of Directors, I had the privilege of cutting the ribbon for our new satellite chemotherapy unit. Little did I know that six years later I would be accessing this service for myself. In February 2017, I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. My treatment plan included 3 surgeries, 18 chemotherapy treatments and 25 radiation treatments. Thanks to the wonderful relationship between our medical staff and the staff of The Ottawa Hospital Cancer team I was able to have my surgeries and my chemotherapy all in Pembroke. It was wonderful being able to have my treatments right at home in familiar surroundings by friends and familiar faces.

What Does it Mean to Ring the Bell?
Once the cancer patient completes their final treatment, they have the privilege of ringing the Victory of Hope Bell! This bell is a significant milestone for the cancer survivor, and provides hope for the future. Hope that this is the last time they will ever need treatment for cancer, hope that recovery will continue to go well, hope that the cure for cancer is on the horizon, and that no one else will go through the long journey that comes with this disease. The Cancer Care Campaign will provide an upgraded cancer program for patients and front line workers, but also an opportunity for residents in Renfew County to unite and support this Campaign, knowing that they will have a modern and upgraded facility that is close to home, should the word CANCER ever affect their lives. Let’s keep cancer care closer to home, with the Foundation’s Cancer Care Campaign.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It could be a one-time fundraiser, like a donation in honour of a 50 year Anniversary celebration, or a celebration of life. It could also be as simple as making a donation to support your Regional Hospital because they helped you or a loved one. At the end of the day, every donation helps the Pembroke Regional Hospital’s front line workers have access to the best tools and practices to take care of our community, when we need them. You are making a difference.

What other ways can I donate?
“Estate Gifts and Planned Giving” are an opportunity for you or someone you love to include us in the planning of their assets, estate or legacy-based donations. It is one of the most gracious gifts you can leave on behalf of a community and hospital, truly a gift that keeps on giving and betters the lives of thousands of others.
Some may wish to leave a planned gift in their Will (a one-time, or recurring donation). Others may choose to donate a property they have held for years to the Hospital, receiving a tax-break. Some families and individuals will donate stocks periodically, both to assist the hospital and also to benefit from a tax break. These types of donations can be discussed and assisted by a financial planner, and help us reach our goal. For more questions about this please contact our team personally by emailing: [email protected] or calling 613-732-2811 (ext. 7408).
