Local elementary school students were recognized at an awards ceremony for the annual Christmas Card Contest, hosted by the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation. Over 150 holiday card designs submitted by elementary school children lined the walls at the PRHF, where hospital staff voted for the top three.
Presley Rochon (age 10) of Cobden, Paige Mayer (grade 7) of Beachburg, and Colin England (grade 3) of Beachburg, placed first, second and third respectively.
“Thank you to all of the students who submitted their Christmas artwork and to the teachers and parents who organized the submissions,” remarked Roger Martin, PRHF Executive Director.
The young artists each shared the inspirations for their designs. Presley, who originally painted her artwork for her grandfather in hospice care, decided to submit her design for the Christmas Card Contest. Paige’s inspiration for her artwork came from hallmark stories and themes of the winter holidays. Colin researched popular Christmas images on the Internet.
The winners each received two tickets to the Pembroke movie theatre and have had their art turned into Christmas cards – now for sale in support of the PRH Foundation’s Cutting Edge Campaign, which funds upgrades to the inpatient surgical floor and also supports equipment purchases for the orthopaedic program.
A pack of 6 cards costs $10, and includes 2 of each winning design. They are for sale at the PRH Foundation office, Pick-It Fence Pembroke, and Ashley Homestore Select.
From now until December 17th, individuals may also make a donation (minimum $10) on behalf of someone special and a Christmas card will be delivered to the designated recipient, along with a notice that a donation has been made in their name. Those opting for an electronic option, may make a donation at www.prhfoundation.com/Christmas and likewise send a Christmas e-card to share their thoughtful gift.
“The holiday season is a special time to share messages of love and appreciation with family and friends,” commented Mr. Martin.
“Dedicating a gift to your Hospital, in the name of someone special is a meaningful way to honour a loved one,” Mr. Martin continued.
